Editorial Standards

We’re building the most expansive and reliable digital library for men’s medical information and women’s medical information online. We work with passionate skilled writers, as well as an expert editorial staff and a knowledgeable review team of board-licensed physicians, specialists and healthcare professionals to talk about everything health.

Our Content Objective

From day one, our goal at Hims has been to help you feel comfortable asking the hard questions about your health and wellness. And when you have real questions, you want real answers.

We’re here to fill that need, bringing you hard science without judgment.

Editorial Integrity & Content Creation Process

Everyone here is dedicated to making well-researched, easy-to-understand health information accessible to all.

Writers & Editorial Team

Our writers are experienced topic experts who put in countless hours to get every article right. They undergo a rigorous training process that includes test assignments, strict adherence to our sourcing and style guidelines, plus regular workshopping and coaching sessions to make their articles as useful as possible.

Our editors have experience across the publishing spectrum — from medical writing, to lifestyle and editorial writing, to investigative journalism — that enables them to focus on helping writers create the most comprehensive, accurate and easily digestible stories out of often complex medical topics.

Medical Expert Reviewers and Fact-Checking

We use a two-step medical research and review process to help ensure writers have access to the most up-to-date clinical research, so you can be sure you’re getting the most reliable information possible.

We frequently update our articles when new research emerges to further ensure that you have the most current insights.

Our specialist medical reviewers thoroughly check each article to make sure our writers accurately represent the scientific consensus on each and every topic.

Additionally, our sourcing guidelines are some of the strictest in the industry — we developed them in-house with input from both our medical and legal advisory boards to ensure that the content we publish meets the strictest scientific standards.

Meet our medical experts.

Compliance Standards

Our publishing process is collaborative by design. Each article goes through several rounds of review because transparency fosters accountability, and accountability fosters accuracy.

Sources, Citations and References

At the bottom of every article, you’ll see a detailed list of all the sources the writer has referenced in the article, so you can dig into the research yourself and independently corroborate the conclusions.

And if you take the time to look at one of those reference lists, you’ll also notice a few things:

  • Only high-quality sources from reputable places like the NIH, the CDC, the FDA, accredited universities and leading research organizations.

  • Only the most recent peer-reviewed research (usually from the year 2015 and onward unless it’s a landmark study).

  • Full-text articles and studies whenever possible.

Smaller studies, studies conducted on mice or other animals, studies done in vitro, studies with a small sample size or any other noticeable limitations are also noted in-text.

Content Curation

Staying Current (Updates and Removal)

After an article’s publication, we periodically update content and send it back through review to make sure the information therein remains accurate and up to date. At the top of every article, you’ll see the date of the most recent update or review by our team.

We also sometimes remove content from the website that we feel no longer provides value to our readers.

On the occasion this happens, any subsequent mentions of or links to that article on our domains are either removed or redirected to more relevant content.

Content Corrections

Mistakes happen. And on the occasion they do — for any reason — we have standards in place to ensure we’re accountable for those mistakes.

Those standards include rewriting when necessary, and sending the article back through a thorough editorial and medical review before re-publishing.

Transparency

We have a mission to make the world feel great through the power of better health. A big part of that mission is providing access to best-in-class, doctor-trusted treatments through our online telehealth platform.

We offer access to these treatments because we believe in them, and we believe everyone should be able to access healthcare that feels like self-care.

So it’s likely not surprising that many of the topics we cover here are at least peripherally related to those services, and the conditions the providers on our platform treat.

You’ll see specific products and prescription treatments mentioned only when they’re relevant and we think they’re useful to readers.

Feel free to check out our privacy policy and terms and conditions, as well.
